Hey I’m 12 and I’m going to sleep-away camp tomorrow. I’m worried that I won’t have any friends, and that I’ll be really homesick, can any one offer some good advice about how to make friends and not be homesick… or can any one tell me their sleep-away camp stories? (like how you made friends and stuff)
And I’m also really worried about saying goodbye to my parents. I know it’s going to be really hard. Any advice for that?

Rust Never Sleeps
$4.63 Young has recorded many live albums, but none capture his two dominant musical personalities with as much power as 1979's Rust Never Sleeps. The acoustic side opens with "My, My, Hey, Hey (Out of the Blue)," a devastating anthem about the state of rock & roll. Comparing the Sex Pistols' Johnny Rotten to the late Elvis Presley, Young delivers perhaps his most famous line: "It's better to burn out t... |

Waiting for My Rocket to Come
$4.96 Virginia exile Jason Mraz grew up listening to Dave Matthews and Agents of Good Roots, local heroes whose frat-friendly influences are much in evidence on his major-label debut. Producer John Alagia (Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer) augments Mraz's SoCal cohorts with Agents' rhythm section, dramatically expanding and polishing songs like "Curbside Prophet" and "You and I Both," which previously app... |

Automatic for the People
$4.25 Continuing to specialize in the art of curve-throwing, R.E.M. followed up its 1991 smash, Out of Time, with this fragile album of soft melodies and string arrangements. The sympathetic ballad "Everybody Hurts" must have prevented countless suicide attempts, while the Andy Kaufman tribute "Man on the Moon" (with Michael Stipe affecting an Elvis Presley imitation) and the rock-into-oblivion "Drive" ... |

People at camp are usually cool, and they are usually in the same dilemma as you are in right now. Just try to initiate conversation and they will be glad to have someone to talk to. As far as homesickness goes, you can just make sure you text your parents or whatever. Just keep in touch with them and do what camp is made for, having fun.
Good luck:)

I just got back from 2 weeks at camp!!!
it’s a lot of fun. Start up a conversation with a nice-looking person by saying “hi.” it works for me very well
talk to the people you think will like you first. Like, don’t talk to the skinny blondie in short shorts, talk to the girl in the t-shirt that has a school logo on it or the girl with her own unique style. They’re usually nicer, but not always!

You shouldn’t worry at all. Just think about how many girls are going to be in the same position as you. my advice is just be VERY nice to everyone and don’t get involved in any drama.Walk into your cabin with a big smile and that should tell everyone right off the bat that you’re happy to be there and meet new people. Introduce yourself and act excited to make new friends. it will give everyone a good first impression of you and make you easier to befriend. Don’t wait for people to come up to you, go ahead and walk up to them and just introduce yourself.Camp should be fun so make it fun!

I think it is natural to be a little nervous about doing something new. Everyone goes through that, weather it is going to camp, starting a new school, or job.
Just think, everyone is in the same boat as you. All the kids are going away from home, don’t know anyone, etc. Odds are most of the kids are worrying about the same things your are right now.
In all honesty I think that once you get there, you are going to have such a great time you won’t even have time to worry about anything. Counselors have a lot of experience bringing their group together, and getting everyone to be really good friends. Counselors will specifically choose activities that force the campers to make friend, and build trust.
You may be homesick for a little while, but once you get into all the activities, meet new people, etc, that will pass. You could always bring pictures, ask your parents to write you letters, write to them, etc. By the time it is time to go home, you’ll probably not want to leave.
Sleep away camp is a great experience, and something that can only be done when you’re younger. These are going to be great memories for you, something you can look back on with a smile.
Good luck, and have a lot of fun.

You’re going to have so much fun!! I went to a sleep-away camp, and I had loads of fun, even though I’m a shy girl. You really bond with the people that you have a cabin with. All of the activities bring everyone together as well. As for missing your parents, you’ll be having too much fun to really miss them
