It’s decent. I have a small 2 person tent from them and I love it. I believe its called the sundome. As far as tents go, if you go camping once or twice a year in places where there aren’t any horrible weather conditions, you should be fine. Pretty much for a basic camper, the gear is great. If you get a little more extreme or plan on going camping very often, then you should probably check out some of the more high end stuff.

I have been camping in Alaska since arriving in February of this year. Several items in my inventory of gear are from Coleman including my 20 degree sleeping bag. From experience, I can highly recommend them and can assure you that if anything fails, Coleman backs them up with a good garantee. Use them with confidence. I do.

Very solid choice. When my dad and I go hunting or I go backpacking, we use a Coleman single-burner propane camping stove. I also have a sleeping bag that the zipper ripped on, but that was totally my fault and not cheap manufacturing.

We bought all colman camping gear and we love them all we have had or stoves for 8yrs. our lights, tent and they are still like new. I would never buy anything but colman.

It is generally good stuff but it does depend on what you mean by “camping.”
Coleman is probably THE name brand for camping equipment used by people that camp in campgrounds. The Coleman white gas camp stove has been around since a few years after WWII (that’s World War II). I’ve had mine 34 years and it still works great. The one my parents have was bought in early 60’s and it still works. Same for Coleman lanterns.
It is probably not the brand for extreme back packing but I do frequently use a Coleman canister stove and I just bought their new solo Exponent cook set. Their stuff is not as light weight as most extreme backpacking gear but is no where near as expensive.
Of all the Coleman gear that I have used, I have only had a problem with one piece of equipment – a single burner stove that belonged to a friend. It had a thin metal collar that supported the burner and it wasn’t strong enough. Another friend took it off and used it as a template to cut a new piece out of some thin stainless steel – no more problems and one of best camp stoves in our group.
I’ve had more problems with my MSR stove and Sierra Designs tent than I’ve had with any of my Coleman stuff.

Be careful of the Coleman backpacking stoves (liquid fuel type – white gas). They are more prone to serious malfunction causing serious injury than brands like MSR, SnowPeak, Primus, etc.
Follow the directions carefully, test the unit at home before using in the wilderness, contact customer service if you’re having problems using them.
Wilderness recration stores (30) in my city have replaced them with more reliable and safe brands.

Not only good but the best buy in camping gear – especially stoves and lanterns.

We uses Coleman on most of the things I buy. They are a real big company and will back their stuff they put on the market.

yes among the best.

its just a name now not like it used to be, got a cheep £15 gelert sleeping bag & it knocks the spots of the colman bag i had, son even took same gelert sleeping bag to Afghan said it was better than the one the army supply mates kept borrowing it for up in the mountains if he did not go,
if you listen to what the store tell you & belive what you have is the best then you will never know better,

It is a good name and has been around for a long time. Just got a lantern and stove at a garage sale for a good price should last for a few years

For lanterns, tents, and stoves they are great. Otherwise…ehhhhh.

On a scale of 1-10 I would give Coleman a 3 or 4. I do own some coleman gear (some pots and pans, camp stove, etc) but for important stuff, I prefer better brands. Marmot is my favorite for tents and raingear. I use a Kelty Backpack but Big Agnes and Sierra Design are good too. Check out http://www.outdoor-gear-online.com for tents, sleeping bags, and backpacks.
