If you want a lightweight and compact stove to take ‘packing, look no further. I was in the store looking at the MSR Pocket Rocket and thought it was the smallest stove I had ever seen (besides a can of Sterno), and then on the other side of the display was the Brunton. The Brunton Talon appeared to be better constructed and provided more stability for cookware with it’s 4-point cook surface (as opposed to the more common 3-point). In a stored state, both of the stoves were of similar size, and the MSR comes with a really cool case for their stove, but the cool case made the MSR unit bulkier than the Brunton Talon is in it’s nylon storage bag. Seriously, when this thing is in the bag, it really is tiny. The stove is so tiny that you still have plenty of room in the storage bag for a lighter or a striker tool.
Out in the field, this thing kicks butt. You can boil water in about 3 minutes on full blast. I am also impressed with the range of control you have over the flame and how well this thing works at it’s lowest settings, even with some wind thrown into the mix. I can turn it low enough to cook things in an Army mess-kit pan with minimal hot-spot issues.
I also like the fuel options for this unit. Being able to pick 4, 8, and 16oz cannisters in all shapes is really a plus.
Tip: You don’t really need it unless you are trying to cook stir-fry out in the bush, but, the Brunton can stand does add a lot more stability.

Boiled 2 cups of water with 10mph winds in 3 minutes. I did have the Brunton stove stand and windscreen that comes with the stand. I love it. . .
Will be testing it in Great smoky Natinal Park in April 09.
