Would needing to figure out how to quickly kill yourself qualify as an emergency? Just curious.

Yeah, no matter what, please don’t think using this in a tent, with all your vents open or not, is a reasonable thing to do. That kind of cold isn’t going to go away because of a stove flame anyway. Only the proper tent, sleeping bag, pad and clothing should be relied on for warmth.

is this really necessary? Why not just light a fire?

I have used alcohol stoves successfully down to -15F. 15 below zero. It’s part stove design, and part knowing how.

This guy doesn’t seem like much of an expert if he uses them in tents…

People die on a regular basis because of using them in tents.

Do NOT ever use it in the tent, or close to, or to heat the tent as shown in this video, you will suffocate from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Secondly, when turning off the stove. Where possible, turn the bottle over so the internal straw is in the pressurized air bubble. This will clean the jet by blowing through the deposits, and safely depressurize the bottle without risk of spraying fuel everywhere.

Alcohol stoves are hard to light below 40. This is a better cold weather option. I know I own both types.
